Three University of Pennsylvania faculty members have been elected to the 2013 class of members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

One of the nation’s most prestigious honorary societies, the Academy is also a leading center for independent policy research. The current membership includes some of the world's most accomplished leaders from academia, business, public affairs, the humanities and the arts.

Joining the Academy from Penn this year are Shelley L. Berger, a Penn Integrates Knowledge Professor and the Daniel S. Och University Professor in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology and Department of Genetics at the Perelman School of Medicine; Lawrence David Brown, the Miers Busch Professor and Professor of Statistics at the Wharton School; and Virginia Man-Yee Lee, director of the Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research, the John H. Ware 3rd Professor in Alzheimer's Research and Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

The professors are among 198 new members who will be welcomed at an AAAS induction ceremony on Oct. 12 at the Academy’s headquarters in Cambridge, Mass.. The list of new members is available at https://www.amacad.org/members.aspx.
