The University’s newest students got their first taste of a Penn tradition, as they were formally welcomed at Convocation.At dusk on Aug. 25, the evening before the start of classes, the Class of 2019 and transfer students marched up Locust Walk to the ceremony on College Green.

The quiet of the summer has ended and the Penn campus is alive with activity at the arrival of the Class of 2019. Members of the freshman class began moving into college houses on Aug. 20, pulling suitcases filled with clothing and carrying in necessities including lamps, bedding, and laptops.

Studying Abroad Enriches Miranda Lupion’s Penn Experience

Miranda Lupion’s interest in Russian language, history and culture began at a young age and has deepened during her time as a student at the University of Pennsylvania. Her elementary school offered basic Russian language instruction teaching the alphabet and singing songs, and she began listening to stories in Russian in the fourth grade.
