PHILADELPHIA  -  The University of Pennsylvania's Division of Information Systems & Computing has been selected by IDG's Computerworld as the ninth top workplace for information-technology professionals nationwide and as No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic Region.  This is the second consecutive year ISC has been so honored.

PHILADELPHIA -- Stanton Wortham, professor of education and associate dean for academic affairs in the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education, will serve as the school's interim dean, beginning Aug. 1.  

PHILADELPHIA -- David Hollenberg, associate regional director of design, construction and facility management for the National Park Service's Northeast Region, has been appointed university architect at the University of Pennsylvania, according to an announcement by Penn Executive Vice President Craig Carnaroli.

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Pennsylvania, including its Health System, contributes $9.6 billion annually to the state economy through its salaries, purchases, research, construction projects, taxes and indirect and induced expenditures, according to an independent economic and fiscal impact report issued this week by Econsult Corp. of Philadelphia.

WHAT:  MERT is a student-developed, student-operated emergency medical response team at the University of Pennsylvania that has been trained to respond to medical emergencies on campus.The team members will be dispatched by the Division of Public Safety's PennComm Center and will respond via bicycles equipped with oxygen, defibrillators and other emergency medical supplies.

PHILADELPHIA -- Under a new agreement, the University of Pennsylvania will now purchase nearly 30 percent of its energy needs from wind-generated power, nearly tripling its wind-energy purchase.

WHO:  Approximately 270 youths ages 6-18 from 27 Police Athletic League centers throughout Philadelphia, along with their chaperones, will join police officers from the University of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Police Department, Penn students and other members of Penn's Division of Public Safety at a Penn/PAL skating party.

Richard Gelles, dean of Penn School of Social Policy and Practice, is an expert on adoption and is the author of the federal Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997.  He can comment for stories resulting from the new report by the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute on adoptions by same-sex couples and on stories related to opposition to the report.

PHILADELPHIA -- Total undergraduate charges for tuition, fees, room and board at the University of Pennsylvania will increase 5.25 percent for the 2006-2007 academic year, bringing the total cost of an undergraduate year to $43,960. The increase was approved today by Penns Board of Trustees.

PHILADELPHIA -- Marie Witt has been named vice president for the University of Pennsylvania Division of Business Services.
