Six Faculty Fellows have been appointed to the new comprehensive College Houses.
The new Fellows will begin their two-year terms on July 1 and will live and dine in the College Houses with their families, bringing House residents into daily contact with Penn's scholars and teachers. They are informal advisors, program initiators and bridge builders to the other resources of the University.
Faculty Fellows are selected by Faculty Masters in consultation with students and staff within each College House.
Michael Gamer, Hamilton College House Assistant Professor of English Michael Gamer will be joined in Hamilton by his wife, Elise Bruhl, an attorney who will soon begin a clerkship with the Hon. Marjorie O. Rendell, who sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. This past summer, Gamer directed two writing programs - the Penn English Dissertation Proposal Writing Workshop for new doctoral candidates and the Claremont McKenna College Summer Preceptorial Program, an intensive remedial course for incoming students.
Anita Gelburd, Hill College House Gelburd, Director of Undergraduate Academic Affairs and Wharton Evening School Programs, will be joined at Hill House by her husband, Lawrence (WG'91), an independent record producer in Philadelphia. Gelburd has direct experience with Penn's College Houses as Administrative Fellow and Graduate Fellow of Stouffer College House from 1983-1985. As Director of Undergraduate Academic Affairs, she is responsible for managing all aspects of undergraduate student advising and the administration of academic programs and regulations for Wharton's 2,400 full-time students.
Tina Lu, Harnwell College House Lu, Assistant Professor of Chinese Literature, will be joined in Harnwell by her husband and Scholar in Residence Stuart Semmel, currently a Lecturer in History and Literature at Harvard. Lu served for six years as a resident tutor in one of Harvard's 12 residential houses. She also served as an advisor on race relations, organizing and mediating discussions on race and ethnicity and organizing the presentation of Asian and Asian-American films. She has received a Mellon Fellowship in the Humanities (1991-96) and a Fulbright grant for study in Taiwan (1990-91).
Lori Rosenkopf, Gregory College House Rosenkopf, the Douglas Vickers Term Assistant Professor of Management at the Wharton School, will be joined at Gregory by her husband, Kevin Valentine, who is completing his third year at Penn Law, and their two children, Taylor, 3, and Trevor, who is 2 months old. Rosenkopf was previously the Kraft General Foods Term Lecturer in Management at Penn in 1993-94. Her previous professional experience includes work as a Systems Engineer for AT&T from 1985-1988 and as an Industrial Engineer with Eastman Kodak Company from 1982-1985.
Alan Strudler, Harrison College House Strudler, Assistant Professor of Legal Studies at the Wharton School, will be joined in Harrison by his wife, Eleonora Curlo, who teaches marketing at the City University of New York. Strudler teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in business ethics and negotiation. Previously, he was a visiting assistant professor at the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University (1994-95), and a research associate at the University of Maryland's Institute for Philosophy and Public Policy, School of Public Affairs (1989-95).
Joseph Sun, Community House Sun, Director of Academic Affairs at SEAS, will be joined in Community by his wife, Mae Jane (C'85), and their two daughters, Victoria, 4, and Olivia, 1. Mrs. Sun has ten years of experience as a molecular biologist. Sun has completed the coursework and qualifying exams in Penn's Ph.D. program in city and regional planning. His knowledge and experience with Penn and Penn students is extensive: he has worked as the Director of Academic Affairs for the Wharton School (1994-97), as interim director of the Greenfield Intercultural Center (1993-94) and as Assistant Dean in the College (1990-93). He also acted as Assistant Dean for Residence from 1986-1990.
Marie D. Witt, Associate Vice President for Business Services, has been named Interim Vice President for Business Services, filling the position left vacant by the recent death of Steven D. Murray. Witt has spent her entire career at Penn, joining Human Resources in 1981 and Business Services in 1985. As Associate Vice President she played a key role in the campus Food Service Study and in planning for the new Bookstore and Faculty Club at the Inn at Penn.
