It has become a rite of summer at Penn: The students depart and the construction crews get busy.

Over the summer, a number of construction projects ranging from the modest to the major were either completed or begun all over campus, including:

- Steinhardt Hall. The new home for Penn Hillel at 215 S. 39th St. opened at the end of August. The building includes meeting rooms, worship space and a kosher dining facility.

- Roberts Hall reconstruction. The north wing of the Law School’s 1961 structure was gutted and rebuilt with more space for Law School faculty, who began moving into their offices Aug. 22.

- College House renovations. The renovation of Hamilton College House is all but complete—some landscaping and rear terrace work remain undone. The first phase of the Harrison College House rehab, involving concrete patching, took place over the summer; resurfacing of the concrete takes place this fall.

- Hill Square. This project turns the open field north of Hill College House into a landscaped park, with an amphitheater and benches inscribed with aphorisms by artist Jenny Holzer. The project, funded by the Trustees’ Council of Penn Women, is set for completion by the Nov. 1 wrap-up of the 125 Years of Women at Penn celebration.

- Annenberg Plaza. Facilities Services took advantage of the need to repave the plaza in front of the Annenberg Center and School to rebuild and replace the waterproofing over the Annenberg School classrooms beneath the plaza. Work is set to wrap up by Nov. 7.

- Meyerson Hall. The canopy over the building entrance was removed this summer. Rehabilitation of the Meyerson Hall galleries should be finished by Sept. 15; renovation of the School of Design dean’s office and nearby space will take place throughout the fall, with a completion date of Jan. 4.
