VCR alert: The award-winning PBS science series “Nova” starts its 30th season Sept. 30 with a program featuring Lecturer in Epidemiology and Public Health Chris Rorres of the School of Veterinary Medicine. The subject is Archimedes, not animals, though—Rorres has made the study of the ancient world’s greatest scientist his life’s passion. Rorres, who maintains a web site devoted to Archimedes at www.mcs.drexel.edu/~crorres/Archimedes/contents.html, will discuss Archimedes’ concept of infinity on the episode, titled “Infinite Secrets.”

Who’s the best in business? A panel of Wharton School experts wants to hear your suggestions. Five Wharton profs—Raffi Amit, Peter Cappelli, Robert Mittelstaedt and Michael Useem of the Management Department and Barbara Kahn of Marketing—are serving as judges for PBS’ “Nightly Business Report” (NBR), which will air a 25th anniversary special on Jan. 19 honoring the most influential businesspeople of the past 25 years. Picture-perfect gardens: Attention, nature-loving shutterbugs—the Morris Arboretum wants you. Penn’s nature museum is now accepting entries for “Garden Life: A Juried Photo Exhibition,” which will open Oct. 3. Members of gardening and photography groups are especially encouraged to submit photos depicting the beauty and variety of garden life in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. A new haven for Cherry Tree fans: The venerable folk/ethnic music venue at Penn may be no more, but another local music group has taken up the slack. The Crossroads Music Series at the Calvary Center for Community and Culture has combined its Philly-oriented intercultural concert program with the Cherry Tree’s showcase for traditional music from all over and International House’s world music series. The fall schedule includes Renaissance and Celtic music, performers from Korea and West Africa, blues and a cappella, folk-punk and more.
