Fitness for all

All faculty and staff no longer need to join the Pottruck Fitness Center in order to enjoy its classes, climbing parties, indoor golf center, juice bar and runner’s store. The Department of Recreation has implemented a new policy that allows faculty and staff to take classes at Pottruck at the non-member rate, use the indoor golf center and reserve the climbintg wall for parties with a recreational membership to Hutchinson Gym (free to faculty and staff). No membership is required for faculty and staff to use the retail shops. For more information about these programs, visit www.upenn.edu/recreation on the web.

Our schools rank

Six Penn graduate schools placed in the top 10 in their fields in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of “America’s Best Graduate Schools.” Tops of the tops were Wharton—tied for second with Stanford in the business school rankings—and the schools of Nursing and Veterinary Medicine, both of which placed third (Nursing tied with the University of Michigan).

Rounding out Penn’s Top 10s were the School of Medicine (tied with Duke for fourth), the Graduate School of Education (sixth) and the Law School (tied with Michigan for seventh).

Million-dollar exhibit

Make that $1.7 million, to be exact—the largest exhibition grant ever awarded to the University of Pennsylvania Museum. The three-year grant, from the National Science Foundation, will fund the development of a new traveling exhibition, “Survivor: The Place of Humans in the Natural World.” The exhibit, set to open at the Museum in 2006, will take visitors on a guided tour through human evolution and show its implications on our everyday lives.
