Alice Parker

WHO SHE IS: Accounting Clerk, Department of Transportation and Parking

YEARS AT PENN: 12. Parker started her Penn career as a temporary employee.

WHAT SHE DOES: Parker and her four coworkers deal directly with Penn employees, handing out about 2,000 SEPTA TransPasses and TrailPasses (with a 10% discount for full-time employees) and 200 TransitCheks every month; counting all the receipts from lots and garages; and giving out parking permits for staff and students.

IS SHE A PEOPLE PERSON?: For sure, says Parker. “Most of the customers are pretty nice. About a third of them I know by name.”

WHEN IS IT BUSY?: The end of the month is crunch time, as are the days around the Penn Relays. Participation in the transit programs has increased as gas prices have risen—but the office always slows down during the summer.
