The results are in, and once again Penn is a great place for techies to work. Computerworld magazine named the University one of the “Best Places to Work in IT.” Penn ranks ninth in the nation and first in the region. This is the second year Penn has been included on the list (#8 overall in 2005).

The rankings were determined by a number of factors, including available benefits, workplace diversity, career development, training, retention and—new this year—employee feedback. In total, the magazine surveyed about 40 percent of ISC’s workers, whose responses weighed heavily in determining the rankings.

“ISC is an organization whose goal is to ensure that our clients see value in the IT products and services we deliver today and in the future,” says Robin Beck, vice president of Information Systems and Computing. “To do that we create an environment that brings out the very best in our employees, and, most of all, we value the contributions they make to Penn.”

According to the magazine, the University employs 281 ISC workers, 38 percent of whom are women and 36 percent are minorities. There was only a 3.7 percent employee turnover in 2005 and a training budget of $3,700 per employee.

Penn shares the honor with General Mills (#10), FedEx (#12), Royal Caribbean Cruises (#7), Pfizer (#90) and fellow college, the University of Miami (#2).
The magazine has ranked the top 100 workplaces for technology professionals since 1994.
