For 20 years, the “World Cafe” radio show on WXPN has supported new and established music, showcasing an intimate side of artists behind their work. More than 4,000 musicians have crossed paths with host David Dye (pictured) over the years, including legends Paul McCartney, David Bowie and Joni Mitchell. The show was also one of the first places to air music from then-unknowns Sheryl Crow, Coldplay and Mumford & Sons, among many others.

This October, in celebration of two decades on air, the ‘XPN show is presenting concerts and special programming. On Friday, Oct. 28, the World Cafe 20th Anniversary Tribute Concert features John Hiatt and the Indigo Girls. On Oct. 29, a second tribute concert includes performances by Feist and Robbie Robertson. Tickets for both shows run $100 to $200.

In addition, “World Cafe” will reach into the archives to re-air some of the earliest appearances from artists Norah Jones, My Morning Jacket, Elvis Costello and Jack White. Dye will also play back the best shows exploring specific music genres, from jazz to ‘90s alternative, as well as unveil his picks for the 20 albums that define the program.
