In conjunction with the 2012-13 Penn Humanities Forum on Peripheries, the Penn Museum is presenting Culture Films, a documentary series with a theme of people marginal to the societies in which they live. The series kicks off on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. with the film, “I for India,” a unique record of a family’s experience as outsiders to a larger society. This screening also features a talk by Amardeep Singh from Lehigh University.

On Sunday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m., the series screens “In Pursuit of Happiness,” about the lives of men who live in the margins of Japanese society; the film is accompanied by a talk from Kyle Cleveland of Temple University in Japan.

And on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m., filmmaker and film archivist Kate Pourshariati presents “Excavation,” about what happens when a small family farm in Indiana begins closing down its operations.
