New lower-emission accessible bus

This fall, Penn Transit introduced a new bus that expands the fleet of lower-emission vehicles, gives more riders seats, and improves handicap accessibility. The 70-seat bus uses low-sulfur diesel fuel to decrease carbon emissions, save on maintenance repairs, has a longer lifespan.

The bus also provides ease of entry in compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act regulations. It has a hydraulic “kneeling device” that can be used when the bus is not in motion, lowering it to normal curb height to allow some wheelchair users to board unaided. It is also equipped with a wheelchair lift, and when combined with its low floor, can provide a nearly level entry. The vehicle runs along the Penn Bus East route.
