Do I get a discount at the Penn Bookstore with my PennCard?

Dear Benny,
I was in line at the Penn Bookstore recently and noticed that the person ahead of me got a discount when they showed their PennCard to the cashier. Is this part of a  holiday sale that’s happening? Are there any other deals that I’m missing?
—Want to Save a Few Bucks

Dear Bucks,
You weren’t seeing things—the Bookstore did offer that patron a discount. In fact, all Penn faculty and staff can get a 10 percent discount (regardless of whether or not it’s the holiday season) when they show a PennCard at checkout. The discount does not include a few items, such as textbooks and certain special orders, and cannot be used with other Bookstore coupons or discounts.

If you pop into Computer Connection, located on the second floor of the Bookstore, you’ll be able to take advantage of other deals before the end of the year. Look for Computer Connection’s 2014 Holiday Wishbook (or flip through the digital edition) for coupons on headphones, cell phone, tablet, and laptop cases, and educational toys.

If you want to pick up a gift for the gardener in your life, check out the Morris Arboretum gift store; members receive 10 percent off year-round. Go to www.morrisarboretum.org for details.

And speaking of year-round, faculty and staff can get 10 percent off all Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts and Dance celebration performances. This offer is valid for two tickets to each performance.

Keep up with all other kinds of discounts through the Deals@Penn website (PennKey login is required). From there, you can access the YouDecide portal, offering Penn faculty and staff discounts from national providers of goods and services. Participating companies include insurance products, books and movies, health and fitness, and computers and electronics.
