Maya Weekend

International scholars, Maya enthusiasts, artists, linguists, archaeologists and others will come together for the 28th Annual Maya Weekend on April 9-11, at Penn’s Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, 3620 South St.

The weekend has become a must-attend event for people from across the globe interested in lectures, language workshops and activities exploring Maya culture. This year’s theme is “Maya Women: Figures of Enduring Strength and Power.” In the ancient Maya era and in contemporary Latin American culture, Mayan women have played pivotal roles in their families and communities.

Weekend activities include illustrated talks by world-renowned scholars, films, interactive hieroglyphic workshops for beginners and advanced glyph readers and an optional Maya banquet.
