2007 Penn Lectures in Judaic Studies Being Held in Montgomery County in February

PHILADELPHIA -- The complex historical relationship between Jews and Muslims is explored as the 2007 Penn Lectures in Judaic Studies throughout February at synagogues across Montgomery County, Pa.  

The series of free, public lectures are presented by prominent Judaic studies scholars who are fellows at the Center.   

* Miriam Goldstein of Hebrew University will discuss "An Arabesque Scripture: How Islam Changed the Way We Look at the Bible" Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. at the Main Line Reform Temple, 410 Montgomery Ave. in Wynnewood.  

* Charles Manekin, associate professor of philosophy at the University of Maryland and Bar Ilan University, will speak on "Maimonides, Moderation, and Religious Extremism" Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. at Temple Beth Hillel-Beth El, 1001 Remington Road in Wynnewood.

* Robert Morrison, assistant professor of religion at Whitman College, will lecture on "What Jews Should Know About Islam" Feb. 21 at 8 p.m. at Adath Israel, 250 N. Highland Ave. Merion Station.

* Milka Levy-Rubin of Hebrew University will discuss "Muslim Rulers and Their Non-Muslim Subjects: Between Tolerance and Suppression" Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. at Or Hadash: A Reconstructionist Congregation, 190 Camp Hill Road in Fort Washington.
