PHILADELPHIA -- West Philadelphia families with children of all ages are invited to a spring carnival featuring games, face painting, entertainment and free snacks beginning at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, May 29.
The carnival will held at the West Philadelphia High School football field on 48th Street, between Locust and Spruce streets.
Families who participate in Family Fitness Night at both West Philly High and Lea Elementary school will demonstrate some of their activities, including yoga, line dancing, karate and tips for healthy eating.
Parents can also learn how to enroll their children in Summer Freedom School, which offers free cultural and academic-enrichment programs for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. Summer Freedom Schools will be held at Huey, Lee, West, Shaw and Sayre schools June 23 through mid-August. Registrations for all sites can be completed on the spot.
Staffers from the West Philly High and Lea Elementary after-school programs will be on hand to discuss activities during the school year for kindergarten through 12th grade and to take applications for fall.
Both West Philly and Lea Elementary Summer Freedom schools are programs of the Netter Center for Community Partnerships at the University of Pennsylvania.
