PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Pennsylvania has been ranked among the top 10 schools in the country for African-Americans by Black Enterprise, a national business magazine. Penn came in at No. 9, which makes the University among the top-rated non-historically black colleges and universities.
The magazine list is based on assessments by a team of 500 African- American higher-education professionals, including presidents, chancellors and directors of student affairs, and takes into account social and academic environments for African-American students.
"Penn has a proud history of inclusion that reaches back decades," Penn Provost Ron Daniels said. "To have the University ranked so highly by African-American academics as an educational destination for African-American students is affirmation of our efforts to make Penn a welcoming campus for students from all backgrounds.
"I especially applaud the work of everyone at Penn's Makuu -- Black Cultural Resources Center for their contributions to the University," Daniels said.
Florida A&M University topped the Black Enterprise list.
