WHO:
WHAT: Launch of Campaign for Working Families, a project of the University of Pennsylvania
WHEN: Tuesday, Dec. 3, 10 to 11 a.m.
WHERE: Norris Square Children's Center, 2011-23 Mascher St., Philadelphia
The goal of the Campaign for Working Families is to bring millions of dollars to low-income working families in Philadelphia by increasing the number of city residents who file for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit. A related goal is to increase the number of people who receive free tax-filing assistance.
The Campaign for Working Families supports low-wage workers through a broad, institutionally based effort to increase the number of eligible families in Philadelphia who take advantage of the EITC and other state and federal credits.
In addition, the Campaign will encourage and assist eligible families to apply for public benefits such as food stamps, Medicaid and other programs designed to build financial literacy and assets.
The Campaign is funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare and the Philadelphia Office of Housing and Community Development. It is managed by the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Research on Religion and Urban Civil Society.
EDITORS NOTE: Michael DiBerardinis and individuals who have pledged to file for EITC at the Campaign's free tax-filing sites will be available for interviews.
