WHAT:          

College Day 2012, when students from Lea Elementary School will become honorary college students at the University of Pennsylvania. The goal is to excite students about the college experience, so they will be motivated to work hard in middle and high school and strive for a college education. 

WHEN:          

9:30 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1

WHO:            

Penn students will be mentors throughout the day, sharing their college experiences with the Lea students.

College Day is sponsored by the Undergraduate Assembly in collaboration with Penn’s Office of Government and Community Affairs; co-sponsored by the Office of Admissions and the United Minorities Council.

SCHEDULE:    

9:30 -9:45 a.m.: Welcome/Key Note, Houston Hall of Flags

 9:45 -11 a.m.: Campus Tour with Kite and Key Tour Guides leaves from Houston Hall to key spots on campus, including the Quad, Franklin Field, and Van Pelt Library to give students a sample of what college life entails.  

11 a.m.- noon: Lunch at Houston Hall of Flags

Noon – 1 p.m.: Management 100 Class, Houston Hall of Flags. Lea students will become Wharton students for a day as they work in teams to design products college students would want to purchase.  

1 -2 p.m.: Student Panel on College Life, Houston Hall of Flags. Students gather to discuss what they have learned from their time on campus. As the Penn volunteers hail from all types of student groups, they will discuss the endless extracurricular opportunities in college.

1 -3 p.m.: Simultaneous Parents’ Lunch & Discussion, Terrace Room, Claudia Cohen Hall. This two-part discussion for parents will first focus on pathways to college and parents’ best practices to ensure their child’s access to higher education. The second part will be on college affordability -- grants, scholarships, loans and work-study options. Guest speaker is Albert Pak, chief operating officer of the education non-profit 12+.

2-3 p.m.: Penn Student Group Performance, Houston Hall of Flags. A performance by multiple dance and singing groups.

3-3:45 p.m.: Recess at Penn Park. Lea students will experience some end-of-the-day fun with student athletes at Penn Park.
