Exhibitions on Display at Penn's Architectural Archives

PHILADELPHIA -- Two exhibits will open to the public April 9 and run through September in the University of Pennsylvania's Kroiz Gallery of the Architectural Archives, 220 S. 34th St.

"From the Ground Up: Approaches to Architecture and Landscape Design."

This exhibition brings together 100 master drawings and models documenting the search for meaningful form in architecture and landscape design. Included in the exhibit are works by Louis I. Kahn, Raymond Hood, Isamu Noguchi, Laurie Olin, Wesley Wei, Jacques Greber, Paul Philippe Cret, Lawrence Halprin, Mario Botta, Kohn Pederson Fox, Venturi Scott Brown and Associates and others.

"The Art of Robinson Fredenthal."

More than a thousand geometric models illustrate a lifetime of exploration by this extraordinary artist who studied at Penn with Louis I. Kahn, Robert LeRicolais and Romaldo Giurgola. Perhaps best known for his monumental public sculptures, including the landmark "Black Forest" at 34th and Walnut streets, Fredenthal has spent his life in relentless inquiry into geometric form.

Hours for the gallery are weekdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additional information at 215-898-8323 or http://www.upenn.edu/gsfa/archives/archives/index.html.
