Former New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial to Launch Penn's 2005-06 Fox Leadership Forum Series
PHILADELPHIA-- Marc Morial, former New Orleans mayor and current president of the National Urban League, will speak at Irvine Auditorium at the University of Pennsylvania at 5 p.m., Monday, Sept. 12, about government response and accountability in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The event will be free and open to the public.
As mayor, Morial, a Penn alum, orchestrated the evacuation of New Orleans during Hurricane Georges. Morial will discuss the federal, state and local response to Katrina and the long-term impact on New Orleans and the nation and take audience questions.
The speech will kick off the 2005-06 Fox Leadership Forum series at Penn. The Program, in the School of Arts and Sciences, aims to enrich the educational experience of Penn undergraduates by connecting them with leaders representing a wide range of professions.
The forums, free and open to the public, will be held on campus throughout the year, include:
Jim Donald, president and CEO of Starbucks Corporation, will speak at 5 p.m., Sept. 13, in Huntsman Hall. Starbucks Corporation and GreenTrek Networks Inc. will present the Corporate Social Responsibility Forum at 6 p.m., Sept. 13, in Room 351, Steinberg Hall-Dietrich Hall.
Deloitte Consulting will present the Leadership in Financial Services Forum at 5 p.m., Sept. 19, in the Ben Franklin Room of Houston Hall.
Penn President Amy Gutmann will address students at 4 p.m., Sept. 22, in The Class of '49 Auditorium in Houston Hall.
Rick Kaplan, president of MSNBC, will speak at 5 p.m., Oct. 20, in the Terrace Room of Logan Hall.
Alexander L. Hoskins, president of the Zoological Society of Philadelphia, will speak at 6 p.m., Oct. 24, in th 2nd Floor Conference Room of Leadership Hall at 3814 Walnut St.
James Q. Wilson, a professor of public policy at Pepperdine University will speak at 6 p.m., Oct. 24, in the 2nd Floor Conference of Leadership Hall at 3814 Walnut St. and an emeritus professor of management and public policy at the University of California, Los Angeles, will speak at 5 p.m. Nov. 7, in the Ben Franklin Room of Houston Hall.
