PHILADELPHIA -- Frank Furstenberg, professor of sociology at the University of Pennsylvania, has received a Fulbright Senior Specialists grant in sociology to work in Uruguay.
Furstenberg will spend two weeks lecturing at Uruguay's Instituto de Economa and planning a study, "Family Change in the Southern Cone Nations."
The Fulbright Senior Specialists Program, sponsored by the U.S. State Department, awards grants to leading U.S. academics and professionals to support curricular and faculty development and institutional planning at academic institutions in 140 countries around the world.
While the traditional Fulbright Program, created in 1946, offers grants for two months to a full academic year, the Fulbright Senior Specialists Program offers two- to six-week grants, allowing more individuals to work abroad.
Grantees undertake a range of activities, including conducting teacher-training sessions, developing and assessing curricula or educational materials and leading seminars or workshops.
