Academic and Alumni Processions Canceled ONLY
Due to the weather, the academic and alumni processions have been canceled. The STUDENT procession across campus will continue as planned. The Commencement ceremony will begin as scheduled in Franklin Field at 10:15 a.m. The gates will open at 8:30 a.m. for parents and guests.

WHO: Geoffrey Canada of the Harlem Children’s Zone will present the main commencement address and receive an honorary doctor of humane letters degree
Other honorary degree recipients are David H. Petraeus, Central Intelligence Agency director and retired U.S. Army general; John Lewis, civil rights activist and U.S. congressman; Ruzena Bajcsy, Penn professor emerita and pioneering researcher in robotics and artificial intelligence; Akira Endo, biochemist and pioneering statins researcher; Peter D. Lax, mathematical theorist; and Anna Deavere Smith, social activist and award-winning actress and playwright
WHERE: Franklin Field, 33rd and Spruce streets
WHEN: May 14, 2012, 9 a.m.
The procession of honorary-degree recipients and about 6,000 graduates enters Franklin Field at approximately 9:30 a.m.; remarks begin around 10:15 a.m.
