Green Campus Partnership Green Fund Grant Applications at Penn Are Due Oct. 31

Proposals for fall 2013 Green Fund grants through the University of Pennsylvania’s Green Campus Partnership are due by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, Green Fund grants support innovative green projects and ideas from students, faculty and staff.

Established in 2009 and funded by the division of Facilities and Real Estate Services, the Green Fund provides one-time grants of as much as $50,000. The Fund has spurred the development of more than 49 projects since its inception.

The proposed projects must be designed to help the University meet its sustainability goals as outlined in the Climate Action Plan, a long-range strategy launched in 2009 to reduce Penn’s carbon footprint and enhance its overall sustainability.

In an effort to replenish the Fund and make future awards possible, prospective grant-seekers should note that projects that realize financial or energy savings are expected to repay the award.

Among the most recent Green Fund projects are bike-repair stations, green “to go” dining containers, a GreenVote smartphone app used to collect real-time thermal comfort data and Ben’s Attic Website enhancements, developed by Purchasing Services for the exchange and purchase of surplus University-owned property.

The Green Fund seeks proposals and awards funds in the fall and the spring. Fall 2013 Green Fund winners will be selected by early December.
