Inauguration of Amy Gutmann as Penn's Eighth President Begins with Procession at 10 a.m., Ceremony at 10:30
WHO: Amy Gutmann, a world-renowned scholar and expert in democratic societies who is dedicated to improving student access to higher education, will be installed Oct. 15 as the eighth president of the University of Pennsylvania.
WHAT: The trustees of the University will officially confer the presidency on Dr. Gutmann in a traditional ceremony following a formal procession of dignitaries along Locust Walk that will include trustees, faculty, senior administration and selected guests.
WHERE & WHEN: The procession will set off at 10 a.m. from the Annenberg Center, 3680 Walnut St., and proceed east along Locust Walk to Irvine Auditorium, 34th and Spruce streets, where the inaugural ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
Please note that NO ONE will be allowed admission to Irvine Auditorium without an admission ticket. Reporters, photographers and videographers planning to cover the event should call 215-898-1422 prior to the ceremony to reserve a media admittance ticket.
Media tickets and press kits will be available from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. Friday at a media table located on the Spruce Street side of Irvine Auditorium. A special section for print media has been reserved in the front row of the first balcony, but seating is limited and therefore first-come, first-served will be the rule of the day. Broadcast media will find a mult box for their use at the rear of the auditorium, and, again, the number of outlets is limited.
Special media parking will be designated along the south side of Walnut Street between 33rd and 34th streets. Please use your press placard. Also, broadcast media planning to bring satellite trucks are asked to use wireless transmission because of the procession.
