Internet2 at Penn to Facilitate I2 Awareness Day Demonstrations at University of Scranton

WHAT: MAGPI, the Internet2 service at the University of Pennsylvania, has partnered with the University of Scranton to extend this high-speed Internet service to schools and colleges in northeastern Pennsylvania.

To illustrate Internet2's capabilities for educational and health care organizations in that area, the University of Scranton is hosting an Internet2 Awareness Day, which will include a virtual panel with Penn participants and a demonstration with Penn's Annenberg Center for Public Policy Student Voices Pennsylvania project.

WHO:Dr. Mike Feldman, a pathologist at Penn's School of Medicine, will be part of a virtual panel discussing the use of Internet2 across public school districts, hospitals and institutions of higher education.

Also, project leaders from Student Voices, which encourages civic engagement of young people by bringing the study of local government, policy issues and political campaigns to local school districts, will demonstrate how Internet2 can facilitate their learning activities.  Students use the interactive Student Voices Web site to find information on issues and candidates and discuss policy issues online.

WHEN: Beginning at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 19.

WHERE: Brennan Hall, University of Scranton, Madison Avenue, Scranton.   Go to http://matrix.scranton.edu/pdf/campusmap.pdf  to find Brennan Hall.
