Jack Miles to Speak at Penn Humanties Forum

Jack Miles, the 2002 MacArthur Fellow and Pulitzer Prize-winning author of "God: A Biography," will speak March 19 at 5 p.m. in Room 200 of College Hall on "How Many Scriptures Became One Bible (and Why the Change Matters)." The event is free and open to the public.

In "God: A Biography," Miles examines the evolution of the character of God as though a figure in a work of literature, providing a unique prism through which to consider the Old Testament. Miles uses a similar approach in his 2001 book, "Christ: A Crisis in the Life of God," considering not the historical Christ but the character depicted in the stories of the New Testament.

He is senior advisor to the president of the J. Paul Getty Trust and has written for numerous publications including the Atlantic Monthly, New York Times and Boston Globe.
