Karlawish Awarded Brookdale National Fellowship for Aging Research
PHILADELPHIA -- The Brookdale Foundation has awarded University of Pennsylvania Health System physician Jason H.T. Karlawish a fellowship to study the ethics of Alzheimer's Disease clinical research.
Dr. Karlawish received the prestigious two-year Brookdale National Fellowship for his proposal to investigate community preferences for the design and the conduct of Alzheimer's Disease clinical research. The fellowship from the New York-based foundation is intended to encourage researchers in medicine, humanities, policy, behavioral sciences and social sciences to be leaders in geriatrics and gerontology.
Karlawish is a fellow with the Institute on Aging, a faculty member with the Center for Bioethics and an instructor in the Department of Medicine, all at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He has chosen Dr. Arthur L. Caplan and Dr. David A. Asch, both with Penn Center for Bioethics, to be his Fellowship mentors.
Karlawish graduated from Northwestern University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Francis Scott Key Hospital in Baltimore. He served fellowships in clinical medical ethics and in geriatric medicine, both at the University of Chicago. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Geriatrics Society, Gerontological Society, Society for Medical Decision Making and American Association of Bioethics.
