Kofi Annan, Five Others to Receive Honorary Degrees During Penn's 249th Commencement May 16

WHAT:  University of Pennsylvania's 249th Commencement ceremony

WHO: U.N. Secretary-General and Nobel Peace Prize winner Kofi Annan will present the main commencement address and receive an honorary doctor of laws degree.

Other honorary degree recipients are Grammy-award winning musician and producer Quincy Jones, philosopher Saul A. Kripke, Comcast founder Ralph J. Roberts, journalist Judy Woodruff and Nancy Fugate Woods, dean of the University of Washington School of Nursing.

WHERE: Franklin Field, 33rd and South streets

WHEN: The procession of graduates enters Franklin Field at approximately 9:30 a.m.; remarks should begin around 10:20.

DETAILS:

* Television trucks will be permitted to park in Franklin Field Lot 6 at the corner of 33rd and South streets.  Police will be blocking off 33rd Street when the procession starts so it is recommend that everyone arrive prior to 9:30 a.m.

* Media need to check in with the communications staff at the Franklin Field box office on 33rd Street for credentials to enter Franklin Field.

* A mult-box will be available and a platform set aside for television cameras.  The communications staff will point these out to the media.
