Money raised from the auction will provide scholarships to summer interns at non-profit, legal-aid and governmental organizations. The students gain valuable legal experience and help organizations and individuals that need but cannot afford legal assistance. Students who have received scholarships have worked in areas such as immigrant rights, criminal prosecution and housing rights.
Items to be auctioned include a weekend for two in Las Vegas in a penthouse suite at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino along with passes for Canyon Ranch as well as services such as music lessons, a homemade dinner at a Penn Law School professor's house and gift certificates for dinners at some of the finest Philadelphia restaurants.
In 2002, EJF raised $40,000 to provide grants to fellow Penn Law students.

In honor of Valentine's Day, and as a way of fostering community in her Shakespeare in Love course, Becky Friedman took her students to the University Club for lunch one class period. They talked about the movie "Shakespeare in Love," as part of a broader conversation on how Shakespeare's works are adapted.
