Novelist Susan Cheever to Visit Penn as 2011 Kelly Writers House Fellow Feb. 14-15
PHILADELPHIA – Novelist and non-fiction writer Susan Cheever is the first of three acclaimed writers slated to visit the University of Pennsylvania as Spring 2011 Fellows at Kelly Writers House. Cheever will be on campus Feb. 14-15.
Playwright Edward Albee comes to Penn March 21-22 and poetry critic Marjorie Perloff April 25-26 for evening readings and informal teaching sessions with young writers and aspiring writers and writer-critics.
Cheever has published five novels and seven works of nonfiction ranging from “Home Before Dark,” a memoir of her father, fiction writer John Cheever, to “Desire: Where Sex Meets Addiction.” Her 2006 “American Bloomsbury” was on the Boston Globe best-seller list for months. Her latest book is “Louisa May Alcott: A Personal Biography.”
Cheever is a Guggenheim Fellow, an Authors Guild Council member and a winner of an Associated Press Award. She has taught at Yale University, Hunter College and the New School and is on the faculty at the Bennington Writing Seminars.
Each Fellow’s visit will begin with an evening reading at Kelly Writers House, 3805 Locust Walk, followed the next day by a brunch and a public interview-conversation the following morning.
