Penn and ADL Team Up to Provide Holocaust Education Teacher-training Workshop April 17

Penn and the Anti-Defamation League of Philadelphia will present a half-day workshop for teachers of the Holocaust that will incorporate the USC Shoah Foundation Institute’s Visual History Archive of interviews with Holocaust survivors and witnesses.
At 5 p.m., Penn President Amy Gutmann will make remarks on Penn and the ADL’s shared commitment to Holocaust education.
Participants include Philadelphia public school teachers in Penn English Professor Al Filreis' class via the Teachers Institute Philadelphia, "Teaching the Holocaust: Bearing Witness," and students from Penn’s Graduate School of Education. Participants also will gather for dinner in celebration of Passover.
Randi Boyette, ADL regional education director, will introduce workshop participants to the “Echoes and Reflections” multi-media curriculum that links Holocaust education to the importance of challenging bias, bigotry and scapegoating today.
Penn is the first university in Pennsylvania to provide access to the entire visual history archive of nearly 52,000 video testimonies of survivors and other witnesses of the Holocaust in 32 languages and from 56 countries.
