Penn-Assisted School Invites Submissions for New Name

PHILADELPHIA -- In keeping with the tradition of the School District of Philadelphia in naming new schools, the Penn-assisted school Home and School Association invites the community to help determine a name.

Nominations must be submitted in writing by March 22 to the Penn-assisted School Planning Office, 4243 Spruce St., Philadelphia, Pa. 19104, or by e-mail to kreidlea@gse.upenn.edu.

Each suggestion should, to the extent possible:

  • Advance the school mission to educate children to be contributing and knowledgeable citizens of the community, Philadelphia and the world.
  • Have a particular significance to Philadelphia or West Philadelphia.
  • Recognize the unique partnership among the University of Pennsylvania, the school district and the community.
  • Reflect the diversity of the community, student body and staff.
  • Include a personal achievement by an individual or significance of a location or metaphor

After March 22, parents and staff will review the submissions and choose their favorites. These will be reviewed by a committee of school, parent, student and Penn representatives, which will make a final recommendation to the district.
