PHILADELPHIA –- Writer Max Apple, a lecturer in creative writing at the University of Pennsylvania and longtime member of Penn’s Kelly Writers House community, has won a 2010 Pew Fellowship in the Arts.

He is among 12 Philadelphia-area artists awarded the $60,000 fellowships.

Apple has published three collections of stories, “The Oranging of America,” “Free Agents” and “The Jew of Home Depot”; two novels, “Zip “and “Propheteers”; and two books of non-fiction, “Roommates” and “I Love Gootie.” 

He has received grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, National Endowment for the Arts and Guggenheim Foundation.
