Penn Freshman Is A Contestant on TV's "Hollywood Squares" Game Show
PHILADELPHIA University of Pennsylvania student Joey Tini is among 14 college students from across the nation competing for thousands of dollars in cash and prizes on the television game show, "Hollywood Squares."
Tini, a nursing student at Penn and South Philadelphia native, will appear on the Feb. 20 edition of the show two-week college tournament. "It was amazing. It was the best time of my life," is how Tini describes his experience as a contestant. He was selected from more than 100 Penn students who auditioned when the "Hollywood Squares" contestant search team came to Penn campus in the fall.
Tini flew to Los Angeles during Penn winter break in January to tape the show, and had a chance to meet celebrity players including Jason Alexander, Martin Short, and Brad Garrett.
Being a contestant on the show was exciting for Tini, but the highlight of the experience was meeting actress/comedian, Caroline Rhea, who plays Aunt Hilda on the television show, "Sabrina the Teenage Witch." Tini was thrilled to be selected to appear in a "Hollywood Squares" commercial with her, and wanted to express his admiration in a special way. "I Italian, and we have that cheek pinching thing. She has real chubby cheeks, so I was thinking, I just want to squeeze her cheeks, but she wouldn let me," Tini said.
"Hollywood Squares" airs locally on KYW-TV, Channel 3 at 7:30 p.m.
