Penn Graduate School of Education Prof Named Global Education Advisory Chair at Success For Kids

PHILADELPHIA –- Marybeth Gasman, an associate professor in the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, has been appointed chair of the global education advisory board at Success for Kids.

Success for Kids is dedicated to empowering at-risk children and youth to become productive citizens by delivering research-based programs that enhance interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, problem-solving skills and self-sufficiency.  Since its inception, the organization has provided more than $25 million for various programs, impacting more than 60,000 children and adolescents.

Gasman will work with expert researchers to advise the organization on its educational strategy, innovation and curriculum, while keeping abreast of global education issues.

“I am excited to work with SFK and to provide meaningful educational opportunities to children and young people around the world.  Through my research, I know that there is immense potential that goes untapped and undeveloped in young people,” Gasman said.  “SFK is focused on changing that, and I’m happy to be a part of its efforts.”

Gasman has been a faculty member at Penn GSE since 2003.  Her research explores minority-serving institutions, fundraising, philanthropy and African-American educational leadership.
