Penn Lecture: Gun Policy and Its links to Domestic Violence
WHAT: Reducing Lethal Violence Against Women: Firearms, Policy and Politics, the Ornter-Unity Center on Family Violence Lecture
WHO: Dr. Susan Sorenson, professor, School of Social Policy and Practice, University of Pennsylvania
In May, Dr. Sorenson testified before a congressional subcommittee on the effectiveness of laws designed to keep guns out of the hands of abusers. She has written more than 100 publications on how gender, ethnicity and place of birth are related to the risk of violence.

WHY: In light of the many instances of domestic violence that end in homicides, this is an opportunity to meet with key Penn faculty members as well as local advocacy organizations and to develop contacts for future interviews. Also, its an opportunity to gather credible research in the fields of domestic violence and gun-control policies.
