Penn Nursing Joins National Health Care Day of Service, Promoting Health Care for Children
PHILADELPHIA — As a part of the National Health Care Day of Service, students from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing will be at the Please Touch Museum from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 27, promoting the Pennsylvania Children’s Health Insurance Program and distributing information on how to contact members of Congress.
“Participating in President Obama’s National Health Care Day of Service reflects our moral commitment to accessible health care,” Afaf Meleis, dean of Penn’s School of Nursing, said. “It is our mission to translate science, promote health and prevent illness.”
“This is an important event for us and reflects what we strive to be,” said Donald Payette, an undergraduate student at Penn Nursing who helped to organize the event. “It demonstrates our calling to serve, our responsibility to advocate for responsible health care and our duty to promote local, national and international efforts designed to meet health needs.”
Pennsylvania’s CHIP program provides health insurance to uninsured children and teens who are not eligible for or enrolled in medical-assistance programs.
