A Penn Positive Health Lecture Series Event: A Focus on Preventing Cardiovascular Disease

WHAT:

Darwin R. Labarthe will examine a shift in focus from cardiovascular-disease treatment to cardiovascular-disease prevention, examining social and medical theories that impact views on wellness, as well as health-care reform.

The Positive Health Lecture Series is organized by Martin Seligman, University of Pennsylvania professor and founder of the positive psychology movement and Penn’s Positive Psychology Center. The series, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, aims to improve health and quality of life by focusing on health strengths and low-cost interventions.

WHO:

Labarthe is director of the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention in the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. His academic and public-health career spans four decades with a central focus on cardiovascular diseases. He is the author of “Epidemiology and Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases: A Global Challenge.”
