Penn Positive Health Lecture Series: How Positive Emotions Improve Health and Lower Infection Risk

WHAT:

Sheldon Cohen, professor of psychology at Carnegie Mellon University, will present evidence from his laboratory addressing how positive emotions, socializing with diverse groups and your social status contribute to better health, including his work on how these factors influence susceptibility to infection.

The Positive Health Lecture Series is organized by Martin Seligman, University of Pennsylvania professor and founder of the positive psychology movement and Penn’s Positive Psychology Center. The series, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, aims to improve health and quality of life by focusing on health strengths and low-cost interventions.

WHO:

Cohen has published pioneering work on the roles of stress and social networks in physical and mental health. He will provide an overview of the evidence for the roles of positive health in morbidity and mortality.
