As future Olympic stars compete on opening day of the Penn Relays April 24, former Olympian John Carlos will speak across campus at Penn's Wharton School. He and others will address "Race and the Business of Sports: Athlete Political Activism 35 Years After the Mexico City Protest." At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, Carlos made history when he and a teammate raised their fists while on the victory stand to protest racism and the economic exploitation of oppressed people.

Presented by the Center for Africana Studies and co-sponsored by the legal studies department of Wharton, the program is free and open to the public.
