PHILADELPHIA – Craig R. Carnaroli, executive vice president of the University of Pennsylvania, has been named chair of the Financial Operations and Systems Working Group, which will advise the Philadelphia School Reform Commission. 

The announcement was made by Mayor Michael Nutter in conjunction with the SRC and Ron Tomalis, the Pennsylvania secretary of education.

The Working Group “will advise the SRC regarding the District’s financial systems, contracting systems, personnel control and general administrative organization,” according to a statement from Nutter’s office. “The Working Group will be comprised of a small group of executives from business, education and the non-profit community with significant expertise and experience in managing large organizations and systems.”

Carnaroli joined Penn in 2000 and since 2004 has served as executive vice president, the University’s most senior non-academic officer. He oversees the offices of Audit, Compliance and Privacy; Budget and Management Analysis; Business Services; Facilities and Real Estate Services; Finance; Human Resources; Investments; Information Systems and Computing; and Public Safety.

Carnaroli chairs the board of the University City District and also works with the University City Science Center, the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation, The Schuylkill River Development Corporation and The Connelly Foundation.

He is a 1985 graduate of Penn’s Wharton School, and in 1990 he received a master’s from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

The SRC Working Group, according to the statement from the mayor’s office, “will be tasked with offering an actionable plan to the SRC regarding financial reforms and system changes at the School District.”
