PHILADELPHIA – Evelyn Wiener, University of Pennsylvania Student Health Services director, is receiving the American College Health Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the organization’s meeting today in Chicago.  “Evelyn Wiener is a world-class executive health leader and an extraordinarily passionate physician, Valarie Swain-Cade McCoullum, vice provost for university life, said.   “She is ‘best in class’ as an exemplary partner to countless Penn students and families who thrive through her superb, and nurturing, care.”

“I feel very fortunate to be able to work in a field and in an institution where my efforts can make a difference,” Wiener said.

Wiener heads Penn’s full-service primary-health-care center, which addresses acute and chronic health problems, preventive health services and health and wellness education.  Weiner was appointed associate director of the Student Health Service in 1989 and became director in April 2000.

“Whatever I have achieved is because of the opportunities, encouragement and support that I have been given in college health and especially at Penn,” Wiener said.

She is a past president of the Mid-Atlantic College Health Association and served as the program chair of MACHA’s 1999 Annual Meeting. Wiener has been active on the ACHA's Taskforce for Health Promotion in Higher Education and was co-chair of ACHA's Benchmarking Committee in 1999-2007.
