The University of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Daily News are partners in a project to work on city planning and design issues involving legalized gambling in Pennsylvania.
Penn design and architecture students will hear a talk by architect Stan Eckstut of the international architectural firm Ehrenkrantz, Eckstut & Kuhn, which designed the MGM Mirage City Center project in Las Vegas. The lecture will be Thursday, Feb. 10, at 6 p.m. in Stiteler Hall at 37th Street and Locust Walk, Room B-6.
On Friday, Feb. 11, Mayor Street meets with the students at 6 p.m. in Meyerson Hall, 34th Street and Locust Walk, Room B-1, to give them the charge for their work for the weekend.
The group will break into teams in a competition, called a charette, in which they'll produce plans and designs for what the gambling places could look like and discuss what impact the gambling sites will have on the city.
