Just before winter break, the University of Pennsylvania released a new style guide—regarding its logos and branding—and a revised University shield. Penn employees are encouraged to become familiar with the changes, and, as always, abide by usage rules and scenarios.
With careful consideration, every school logo within the University underwent changes that better align them with the central Penn identity. To ensure visual continuity, usage rules have been expanded, too. In addition, minor revisions have been made to the Penn shield, largely invisible to the casual viewer. The shield should be replaced in logos as branding materials are redeveloped.
The Penn brand is an integral component of the overarching Penn experience, and the University’s insignia are as central to Penn as College Hall, Locust Walk, or Benjamin Franklin. These symbols play an important role in promoting the University, and as such, it is important that the logos are not physically altered.
