Penn Vet Conducting Free Eye Exams for Service Dogs in May
The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine’s Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary will be participating in the National Service Dog Eye Exam sponsored by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) and Merial for the month of May.
Penn Vet’s Dr. Gustavo Aguirre, professor of ophthalmology, and Dr. András Komáromy, assistant professor of ophthalmology, will be part of 190 ACVO board-certified ophthalmologists conducting the eye examinations. These exams are free to registered service dogs across the United States and Canada. Over the past three years more than 6,000 animals have been screened. Through these efforts service dog health can be improved and potential disease averted, serving those dogs who dedicate their lives to serving us.
Dr. Aguirre will be screening patients the mornings of Monday, May 16 and Tuesday, May 17. Dr. Komáromy will be screening patients on Monday, May 23 through Thursday, May 26.
