As the 21st century unfolds, education will stand as one of the preconditions for economic development around the world. For this year's annual Gorden S. Bodek Lecture, Alan Ruby, senior vice president of The Atlantic Philanthropies, will speak on "Higher Education in the 21st Century: The Global Challenge."
In his remarks, Ruby will consider how colleges and universities can respond to the increasing demand for a better educated populace worldwide as technology grows increasingly complex and marketplaces more sophisticated.
Topics covered in the lecture will include the development of cross-cultural curricula; how institutions of higher education succeed in marketing themselves to an international community; and who are the winners and losers in the global competition for higher education.
Ruby's research focuses on education policy and financial development in the international arena. Previously, he worked at the World Bank as sector director in the Human Development Unit with a focus on East Asia and the Pacific.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
