Philadelphia Charities to Benefit from PennMOVES Collections; Pick Ups Scheduled June 5-6
WHAT: PennMOVES, a coordinated collection of items recycled during move out by University of Pennsylvania students that will go to several city charities.
WHERE: 1923 Ice Rink, 31st and Walnut streets, Philadelphia.
WHEN: Representatives of these organizations plan to pick up items
Thursday, June 5:
9-11 a.m. – AchieveAbility, providing education, support services, community and economic development, and housing and accountability to single-parent, low-income formerly homeless families.
Noon – 1 p.m. -- Bebashi, the first minority HIV/AIDS organization in the nation and the largest in Pennsylvania providing HIV/AIDS prevention and direct services to the urban community.
1–2 p.m. -- Immaculate Heart of Mary Literacy Center, providing general education, computer literacy and language skills courses to adult immigrants
2-3 p.m. -- Funeral Consumer’s Alliance of Greater Philadelphia.
3-4 p.m. -- Philly Food Not Bombs
4-5 p.m. -- University City Hospitality Coalition, providing direct support services to low-income and homeless individuals, including hot meals, medical, dental, and legal clinics staffed by Penn students and referral services for shelter, housing, food, and clothing.
Friday, June 6:
9-10 a.m. -- The Lighthouse, providing educational, recreational and economic improvement programs to families and individuals and Friends of Walnut Street Library
10-11 a.m. -- Books Through Bars, providing good quality reading material to prisoners.
11 a.m. – noon -- Carroll Park Community Council, an emergency food cupboard, housing counseling and neighborhood energy center.
Noon – 1 p.m. -- People’s Emergency Center, helping homeless families achieve stability and independence by providing shelter, case management, education, counseling and career services.
