Philadelphia Middle School Students to Launch Power Boats and Rocket Cars at Penn’s Innoworks
WHO:
Penn student volunteers and their middle-school partners will launch rockets and power boats as part of a week-long summer course designed to get young people excited about science and technology.
WHAT:
InnoWorks is an innovative science and engineering initiative, “By Students, For Students,” designed and implemented by college volunteers for middle-school students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Forty middle-school students spend the week on science projects not typically available in their schools. Penn student volunteers assist with experiments incorporating the five senses.
WHEN:
Tuesday, Aug. 31, at 3 p.m.: Boat Building and Racing, The Bio-Pond, Hamilton Walk near 38th Street, behind Richards Medical Research Building
Friday, Sept. 3, at 11:30 a.m.: Racing Balloon Rocket Cars, Skirkanich Hall, 210 S. 33rd St.
Friday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m.: Flying Homemade Kites, Hill Field, 34th and Chestnut streets
Friday, Sept. 3, at 5 p.m.: Awards Ceremony, Berger Auditorium, Skirkanich Hall, 210 S. 33rd St.
