Richard N. Swett, the former U.S. ambassador to Denmark and one of the only architects to serve as a member of Congress, will lecture on "The Architecture of Trust." His talk is free and open to the public and will begin at 6 p.m. in Room B-1 of Meyerson Hall on the University of Pennsylvania campus.
A licensed architect who has devoted much of his life to the public sector, Swett is passionately interested in how the design interacts in the life of the community and the role of the architect as a leader within society.
Swett was one of six panelists who helped the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation select the teams which performed design studies for the redevelopment of the World Trade Center site.
Swett has specialized in alternative energy development and production, energy conservation, industrial development, international export promotion and real estate. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and the Design Futures Council and a past state chair of the U.S. Olympic Committee. He is currently a senior counselor at APCO Worldwide, a global strategic communication and public relations firm, and senior advisor at Greenway Consulting.
